The Department of Electronics and Automation at Balıkesir Vocational School is a well established academic unit that adopts the vision of Industry 4.0 and digital transformation. It aims to educate qualified technical personnel capable of adapting to contemporary technological developments. The department conducts its educational activities in the fields of electronic design, communication technologies, control and automation systems, and artificial intelligence–based solutions in line with the needs of industry.
Mission
In line with the vision of Industry 4.0 and digital transformation, the mission of the programs is to educate qualified technical personnel who are able to recognize, analyze, design, and implement industrial systems and equipment that include electrical, analog and digital electronics, microcontrollers, and automation components. Graduates are expected to carry out maintenance and repair processes, effectively use programmable logic controllers (PLC), robotic systems, sensors, and industrial communication technologies, and act with an awareness of occupational health and safety.
Vision
The vision of the programs is to train individuals who possess a strong foundation in mathematics, science, and engineering, who follow current technologies in industrial automation and control systems, and who can adapt to PLC, SCADA, robotics, and artificial intelligence–based automation applications. Graduates are expected to recognize and manage cyber-physical production systems, solve problems through analytical thinking, possess the technical knowledge and competence to contribute to both local and international industries, be team-oriented and effective communicators, and embrace sustainability and digitalization as guiding perspectives.
Admission and Enrollment Requirements
Students are admitted to the programs either through direct placement from relevant vocational high school departments without examination, or through the central placement system conducted by ÖSYM using the TYT score type within the Higher Education Institutions Exam (YKS). Current quotas and base scores are announced annually in the Higher Education Programs and Quotas Guide published by ÖSYM.
Graduation Requirements
To graduate, students must complete a minimum of 120 ECTS credits, achieve a cumulative GPA of at least 2.00 out of 4.00, and successfully complete a mandatory internship of 30 working days.
Examinations and Assessment
Students are required to attend at least 70 percent of the classes in order to take the final examination. Each course includes at least one midterm and one final exam. The course grade is calculated as 40 percent of the midterm and 60 percent of the final exam. Students must score at least 50 points in the final exam and achieve a minimum overall average of 45 points. Final grades are converted into letter grades. AA, BA, BB, CB, and CC are considered successful, while DC and DD are conditionally successful. Students receiving an FF grade must retake the course.

Graduates may find employment in the electrical, electronics, and automation sectors; in industrial production facilities; in companies developing PLC, SCADA, robotics, and automation solutions; in R&D centers; in testing and control companies; in firms producing and integrating electronic security systems; in automotive factories and related industries; in companies specializing in hydraulic and pneumatic circuit design and maintenance; in robotic maintenance and technical service units; and in smart manufacturing and digital factories.
Degree Awarded
Students who successfully complete the programs are awarded an Associate Degree Diploma and receive the title of Technician in their respective field of study.
Horizontal Transfer Opportunities
Students may transfer to other programs within Balıkesir Vocational School or to other higher education institutions. For transfers based on central placement, the student’s YKS score in the year of initial admission must be equal to or higher than the base score of the program to which transfer is sought.
Vertical Transfer Opportunities
Graduates of the programs may pursue bachelor’s degree programs such as Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Software Engineering, and Artificial Intelligence and Data Engineering through the Vertical Transfer Examination (DGS) administered by ÖSYM.
